The Inaugural Women in digital honorary recognition was held in April 2017 where 25 most influential women in digital were announced. The announcement happened online and generated a lot of interest and excitement from honorees and their fans.

This initiative recognizes women doing great work in digital who have directly or indirectly contributed to the growth and use of digital for personal and societal good. The women are innovators, entrepreneurs, corporate trendsetters doing big and small things to make the world a better place.

Janet is the first Communications Manager handling Meta (Facebook) in the region. She is in charge of crafting and implementing communication strategies and campaigns for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp in 9 countries; Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Eritrea, Somalia, Djibouti, South Sudan and Tanzania. Before joining Meta, she worked at Uber as the Head of Communications East Africa where she successfully defined and implemented communications strategies for Uber positioning the company as a thought leader in the ride- hailing industry.

Maureen Mbaka is the Chief Administrative Secretary, ICT, Broadcasting and Telecommunications at the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs. She is an active advocate of youth innovation and job creation through ICT. She regularly supports different tech initiative and is involved in industry thought leadership events that seek to grow the industry. Maureen is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a Certified Public Secretary of Kenya. She formerly practised commercial law at TripleOKLaw Advocates as well as in the commercial department at Daly & Inamdar Advocates.

Jihan is the Founder and CEO of Lami a fintech start up that has transformed the insurance industry by digitizing the entire insurance process and allowing users to create and distribute digital insurance products in record time. She recently secured $ 1.8 Million seed stage funding for Lami. Jihan is also the founder of Griffin Motor Insurance that uses Smart car motor app. to offers a seamless user purchase experience that is simpler, cheaper and more efficient through innovation. Her investment in insurance technology has opened up the industry for innovation and transformation.

Elsie is Advertisement Innovation and Business development Manager at Eskimi a Full-Stack Programmatic Advertising Platform with More Than 1.5B Profiled Users Worldwide. She is a passionate trainer on modern media buying techniques driven by data and artificial intelligence. Elsie is a consummate online media buying trainer who has impacted C-suite leaders and the youth through corporate training events and digital marketing classes. She is the Co-Founder at Young Kenyans in Tech a community that brings together quality and powerful network of Young Kenyans in Technology to exchange ideas and grow from each other.

Lynn is a journalist and online content creator with fastest growing digital channels. That have attracted great attention due to the originality and quality of her human-interest stories she generates and distributes. She interviews celebrated personalities, religious leaders, Street children and anyone with a touching story that can change life’s. Her video content distributed mainly through her YouTube channel and other supporting platforms has attracted a lot of viewers. Lynn previously worked as a producer and content developer at Tuko media an online news and entertainment company in Kenya.

Immaculate is the first Data Commissioner in Kenya with the responsibility to influence regulations, policies and laws that will govern data collection, storage and use by digital practitioners and other key players in the country. “I am willing and ready to work to ensure that regulations are in place to ensure that data protection in Kenya becomes a reality. Kenya is placed in Africa second after Ghana as a trailblazer in ensuring personal data is protected,” she said during her vetting by the Communication and Innovation committee of Parliament.
