Since 2014, SOMA Day has hosted celebrations of world social media day in Kenya. The national Celebrations bring together social media users, policy makers and enablers of social media to celebration the growth and inusuence of social media in Kenya. Every year has a specific theme that connects with Kenyans and the rest of the world.
World Social Media Day was launched by Mashable in 2010 to recognize the digital revolution and create social media awareness.
Each year thousands of people organize offlie meetups across the globe to recognize and celebrate the growth of social media globally.
Kenya has continued to be part of the Mashable social Media Day celebrating the growth of Social media with key stakeholders.
SOMA Day will be held on 30th June 2020 in line with world social media Day. The event has been themed ”Creation and distribution of responsible content”. There will be meet ups in different counties. The central meet up will be held at Nailab, Nairobi and will host 100 policy makers, agencies, brands and influencers
Social media platforms are free to access and are powered by user-generated content that is not easily regulated. It is generally assumed that users will be responsible for their own content. The SOMA Day 2018 seeks create a conversation that will lead to responsible use of social media as a powerful communication channel.
